Divorce and Matrimonial Law

Divorce involves a combination of complex litigation and emotional decisions.  For these reasons it is imperative to rely on legal counsel to inform you of your many options so you can make an educated decision.

It is true that a divorce will involve nearly every aspect of your personal, financial, and professional life.  While a divorce will have its emotional toll, it need not be wrought with confusion.  Because the decisions made during a divorce will have long-term effects, it is important to speak with an attorney who can provide the information you need to make informed decisions.  Depending on the circumstances, you will be required to make decisions concerning:

  • Division of Property
  • Child Custody
  • Parenting Time
  • Spousal Support
  • Child Support

During the entire process I will keep you informed every step along the way as to where your case stands and what steps are ahead.

A divorce need not involve unnecessary legal fees.  Alternative methods of resolution often provide the most efficient and effective means to obtain the best result for everyone involved.  Parties to a divorce will often resolve issues more effectively in a cooperative environment.

Under the right circumstances, mediation often serves to expedite the results while avoiding the excess costs of litigation.  Regardless, while mediation should be encouraged I will not shy away from litigation where it is necessary to protect your interests.

Undoubtedly, a divorce will end a marriage.  However, when minor-children are involved it is important to remember that divorce will not break the relationship you have with each other as parents.  When making decisions during the divorce process, minor-children should remain the primary concern for both parents.  Acrimonious support and custody disputes will not foster the future relationships between each parent and the minor-children.
